Yoga Every Day?

I graduated from a six month Yoga Teacher Training program in July of 2018 but I haven’t practiced yoga since May of 2018.

I enjoy Yoga and believe it can cure all sorts of ailments; back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, and much more but I was in my first trimester of pregnancy at the beginning of last year. My mat reminds me of feeling nauseas, craving McDonald’s fish filets (ugh), and feeling exhausted. My wonderful classmates didn’t even mind when I passed out on my mat halfway through our practice.

But now that I am no longer pregnant, and making my way back into the gym and the office, I can’t wait to get back into yoga classes and sit in front of a room full of students. Starting in March of this year, I will be starting a yoga class, so I have to brush up on my skills. So if you’re thinking of taking a yoga class from a teacher who hasn’t practiced yoga in a year, I’m your gal. If you want to create a yoga practice from a teacher who doesn’t pretend to be the perfect yogi, I’m your gal.

I have learned such valuable and transferrable things from my yoga training:

  • Be true to yourself- showing up to your mat is for you, no one else, your mat can see through any masks you wear
  • Practice must be regular- Your mat knows what you need. Try showing up even on days you don’t feel like it.
  • Anything is better than nothing- A wise person once told me, “Just do three poses each day.” It’s an attainable goal, and once you get to the mat you’ll probably do more
  • Poses are for meditation- The original purpose of the yoga poses was to strengthen the body to be able to sit in meditation for long periods of time. Somewhere along the way the expensive yoga pants and sports bras got thrown in.

What have you learned from your yoga practice?

If you’re not a yogi, what do you do routinely that has a positive effect on your life? How do you stick to it? What/ who do you have in your life that accepts you as you are?

Namaste
